Before we get into the 3 Habits of Highly Effective Paleolithic Nutrition we should first define what exactly a habit is.  For the purposes of this post we’ll define a habit as the intersection of knowledge, skill and desire.  This definition might look familiar to you if you read personal development books.  The definition comes from the timeless classic The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.  If you haven’t read it then I suggest that you do.

Th 3 Habits of Highly Effective Paleolithic Nutrition Come From the Definition of a Habit

The first habit of effective Paleolithic Nutrition is acquiring knowledge.  We can take that one step further and say that it’s the act of acquiring knowledge and being dedicated to lifelong learning.  When your health is concerned you shouldn’t skimp on trying to learn the best information available.  If you want to live a long and disease free life then you have to commit yourself to learning the ins and outs of a Paleolithic Nutrition lifestyle.

Dedicate yourself to learning one new Paleolithic practice a week.  Do that for a year and you would have learned 52 new Paleolithic Lifestyle practices that you will have with you for the rest of your life.  Also keep in mind that it takes about 21 to 30 days before a simple act becomes a habit.  So each week you learn something new make sure to keep doing it for at least 3 to 4 weeks straight.  And guess what?  If you don’t like your new practice then stop doing it.  Nobody is forcing you to do anything.  This is your life… enjoy it!

The second habit of effective Paleolithic Nutrition is skill building.  So once you learn the new Paleolithic practices and form those practices into habits it’s time to hone in and master your skills.  Maybe you master the skill of preparing a healthy Paleolithic lunch in less than 5 minutes by always keeping your fridge stocked with nutritious foods from the Paleo Food List.  Maybe you master a new Paleolithic exercise in the gym and are able to pass that knowledge onto other people in your circle.

Understand that this is a journey of mastery… the key to mastering something is to understand that you never will fully master anything.  You can only enjoy the ride of mastery and continuously strive to build your skills and get better over time.  Paleolithic Nutrition mastery comes from knowing what to eat and how it will effect your body.  Study Paleolithic foods and understand their nutritional make-up and why your body needs those nutrients.  You should also build the skill of avoiding certain foods and knowing why you need to avoid them.

Keep this in mind… “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough” – Einstein.  Build your skill and knowledge until you can simply explain Paleolithic Nutrition to your friends and family members.  Until you are able to explain why Paleolithic Nutrition principles make sense and how they work in simple terms so anyone can understand them then you need to keep building your skill set and knowledge.  This goes for anything in life really.

The third habit of highly effective Paleolithic Nutrition is desire.  Do you have the desire to continuously learn new Paleolithic Nutrition information?  Do you have the desire to continuously build your Paleolithic lifestyle skill-set?  If you don’t have the desire then it’s going to be tough for you to keep your new lifestyle going.  Maybe this will help you find the desire.  I want you to find the pain…  that’s right… why does your current situation hurt?  Maybe you’re overweight by 10 or 20 pounds and your energy is always low.  That’s a good start but let’s take it further…

Now imagine yourself 5 years from now without making any changes… maybe you’ve now added 5, 10 or 20 more pounds.  Maybe your energy is even lower.  Maybe your confidence is lower.

Now imagine yourself 10 years from now without making any positive changes… keep going until you absolutely can’t take it anymore and you feel like crap.  You’ve now reached the point where NOT changing is more painful than making a change and you will be compelled to get off your but and the desire to start your new Paleolithic lifestyle.
